The Five Reasons We Know You Can Beat the Women’s Adventure Race Challenge

We're ready to run!

Her

Don’t think you’re an adventure racer? Think again. The Women’s Adventure Race is designed to suit women of all fitness levels, and with the training support of the mainly female Gaelforce team behind you, we want to banish any  doubts you may be having.

Challenge yourself to this wonderful event which includes running, cycling and kayaking and takes place in Leenane, Co.Galway on July 26th and now with a second race in Roundwood, Co.Wicklow on September 20th.

So let’s start to de-mystify those fears that you can’t meet this challenge. We’ve all been there, we’ve all felt nervous, but we’re in it together.

The Run

So you’ve never been a marathon runner, and your running shoes have seen better days, but if you start training today, step by step, this course is very manageable. With 8km in the Galway race, or just under 10km to sweat out in the Wicklow trail, both runs mean you’ll get a chance to challenge yourself surrounded by the encouragement of hundreds of women with the same mission! (We also happen to love the fact that there will be none of those super-fit, muscle-bound, testosterone-pumped men there to overtake you at great speed.)

The Cycle

What better way to take in the stunning scenery than hopping on a bicycle to take you through the next stages of the race? Ok, so it may sound tough at 14-16km, but you’ll feel an instant boost to your body the minute you realise you’ve already conquered the running and now you’re moving into pedal power. Also, cycling means you can catch your breath, and possibly even have a natter with the lady on the bike next to you. Trust us, she’ll be grateful to see a smiling face.

The Kayak

You faced the road and now you’re a woman of the water. You’ll be partnering with a buddy and doing a short loop in the water. You’re also almost finished by the time you step back off the boat. Nervous of the water? The team can arrange for you to test your skills on the day, just before the big event. Trust us, you’ll be invincible.

Owning Your Strengths

You think you’re not an athlete. Or maybe it’s been a while since you stepped back in the gym. This race is all about setting yourself a challenge and proving to yourself that you can do it. So what makes a woman an adventure racer? Every woman who turns up, puts in the effort and does a little training along the way can say that they are not only an athlete but have the spirit of an adventurer. So start saying it loud and proud to anyone who will listen. You’ve got this.

… And Most Importantly – Your Own Goals

The organisers have seen so many women cross their finish line. Sometimes it’s a personal mission or a challenge with friends. Or maybe it’s your first time crossing a line? Have you overcome some fitness fears, or perhaps this is your chance for me-time? The reason we know you can do this, is that we know how amazing women are! You’ve signed up and you can do the race. So lace up your runners and give yourself a pat on the back.

You’re about to beat a challenge – and it’s going to feel awesome.
