The Artist And Crazy, Stupid, Love – The Best Films On TV This Week

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Ryan Gosling's Abs are on the TV this week.

Sue Murphy

There are so many films on TV on a weekly basis, we thought we would draw your attention to some of the better movies that you can check out from the comfort of your own home. Here are five of the best films that are on TV this week.

1. Sister Act, Tuesday, E4, 8pm.

Forget all of your guilty pleasures, this is the greatest of all. Sister Act tells the story of a woman who is put in a nunnery as part of a witness protection programme but seeing as she is an entertainer, the only thing she can do is take over the choir.

2. Crazy, Stupid, Love, Wednesday, RTE1, 9.35pm

Three words. Ryan Gosling’s Abs. That is all. The rest is pretty funny.

3. Saving Private Ryan, Thursday, Film4, 9pm.

The first ten minutes of this film alone sell the entire movie but the story of a regiment who are sent into the war to find a young Private Ryan whose brothers have died in the war is certainly a touching one.

4. Watchmen, Friday, RTE2, 9pm.

Poor Zack Snyder cannot get a break but we think that Watchmen is one of the most underrated films and certainly one of the good comic book adaptations. It was never going to be easy to bring Watchmen to the big screen but Snyder did a pretty good job of it.

5. Avatar, Saturday, Channel 4, 20.15pm

Yes, there was an awful lot of hype behind the film but the 3D was indeed spectacular. It doesn’t exactly stand up on the small screen, particularly due to a poor plot, but it is still a pretty good watch for a Saturday night in.

6. The Artist, Sunday, BBC2, 9pm.

It took the world by a storm a few years ago and it’s easy to understand why. A throwback to the silent movie era, the Artist was just beautiful, well acted and really took us back in time. It’s the perfect Sunday night film.
