“It was inelegantly expressed”
Tom Hiddleston raised a few eyebrows during his acceptance speech at the Golden Globes the other night.
He was being honoured for his work on The Night Manager and instead of just saying “thank you” and leaving the stage he decided to tell a quick story about some of the aid work he was part of in Sudan.
He intended to pay tribute to those who work with UNICEF and Medecins Sans Frontieres and the World Food Programme but instead ended up praising himself.
Here is his speech:

His comments and his approach did not go down well with people.
Tom hiddleston’s speech was the embodiment of white people self-centerism. I’m surprised he and taylor swift didnt work out

He received quite a backlash, so much so, that he was forced to apologise claiming that his nerves got the better of him and saying it didn’t come out right. He said:
“I just wanted to say… I completely agree that my speech at the Golden Globes last night was inelegantly expressed. In truth, I was very nervous, and my words just came out wrong.
Sincerely, my only intention was to salute the incredible bravery and courage of the men and women who work so tirelessly for UNICEF UK, Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and World Food Programme, and the children of South Sudan, who continue to find hope and joy in the most difficult conditions.
I apologise that my nerves got the better of me.”
