Accio new footage!

A brand new trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald debuted today – and it’s seriously dark.

The magical footage kicks off with a young Newt Scamander telling Professor Dumbledore that he’s scared, before it cuts to a Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson.

Which is where we also find out Newt’s boggart: a desk, filled with papers, as he most fears working in an office.

Most of the rest of the trailer focuses on Grindelwald, played by Johnny Depp, as he gets ready to go to war with the rest of the wizarding world.

We get an encounter between Newt and Dumbledore, who tells him: “I can’t move against him [Grindelwald], it has to be you.”

Last but by no means least, we get Newt going head-to-head (or spell-to-spell) with Grindelwald, who yells at him:

“Mr. Scamander, do you think Dumbledore will mourn for you?”

(There’s also a brief introducing to Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist and creator of the Philosopher’s Stone.)

The trailer was first debuted at Comic-Con on Saturday, where most of the cast gathered on stage to discuss the movie.

According to Entertainment Weeklythey were soon joined by Grindelwald (aka: Johnny Depp in costume), who told the crowd:

“I do not hate [muggles]. I do not.

“I say the Muggles are not lesser. Not worthless, but of other value.

“Magic blooms only in rare souls. It is granted to those who live for higher things.”

“The moment has come,” he added, “to rise up and take our rightful place in the world.”
