As Riverdale fans are no doubt aware, the show has basically been teasing a massive twist involving Jughead Jones ever since the series returned.
This week’s episode saw the saga take another turn – with a flash forward at the end of the episode revealing a brand new twist.
Spoilers for Riverdale season four, episode 9 are just below this photo.
So, based off the flash forward, it seems as if Jughead Jones really is dead – and his girlfriend, Betty, is the one who killed him.
It’s worth noting that nothing has been actually confirmed just yet, but she was seen standing over an unconscious Jughead with a rock in her hand.
“He’s dead,” Archie tells her, after looking for a pulse. “What did you do, Betty?!”
Betty panics and gazes down at her hands, one of which is holding a bloody rock.
And while some viewers are convinced that this answers the Jughead mystery once and for all (and that yes, sadly, it means Jughead is dead), others reckon the scene may have been playing out in Betty’s head due to her nightmare conditions.
Others wondered if the scene was part of Jughead’s Baxter Brothers story.
