Riverdale’s Cole Sprouse received death threats after split from Lili Reinhart

Cole Sprouse dated Lili Reinhart for three years.

Cole Sprouse has gotten candid about his split from his co-star, Lili Reinhart. The pair play Jughead Jones and Betty Cooper in the Netflix drama Riverdale and were in a relationship from 2017 until March 2020.

After they called it quits, Cole, 31, admitted that fans sent ‘really nasty stuff’ to his house and the homes of his loved ones.

"Death threats, really nasty, honestly criminal stuff," the former Disney star confessed to Vulture.

"And I do think it’s because at least four of us at this table have dated our co-workers."

Cole was speaking in relation to another couple of the set of Riverdale, actors Camila Mendes and Charles Melton, who star Veronica Lodge and Reggie Mantle in the show. Camila and Charles began dating in 2018, however, they called time on their romance a year later. "Is that just a consequence of an incredible love? Or is that what fanaticism looks like? Perhaps because those lines were blurred to our audience, it’s hard to break those things up when life moves on," Cole reasoned. [caption id="attachment_586691" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Credit: Getty[/caption] Back in March, Cole appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast and, in a rare interview, opened up about his relationship and split from Lili, 26.

"We both did a lot of damage to each other," he admitted to host Alex Cooper.

"I think if I had loved myself a little more, I probably would have left a little sooner," he admitted. While Cole didn't want to go into too much detail about the split, he did say: "I just felt like I had to take care of a lot of people around me, which was not good for me. I probably should have exercised a bit more selfishness in that situation." This confession came when they were discussing the scrutiny and pressure that the couple felt from the public. Adding to that pressure, work became a point of difficulty for the couple.

"It was hard to suspend the way we felt about each other and it didn’t afford us the luxury of distance to overcome that. We’re good friends now, which is awesome."

Cole has since moved on and has been dating model Ari Lou Fournier for more than two years, celebrating their second anniversary in January. Meanwhile, Lili confirmed her new relationship with TikTok star Jack Martin via her Instagram story on August 3rd. The seventh and final season of Riverdale will be available to stream on Netflix from August 31st.
