‘I don’t watch that tripe!’ Do you think that Love Island dumbs people down?

Probably not in fairness.

I have not made a secret of the fact that I have never watched an episode of Love Island. Don't @ me, it just isn't really my thing. However, I am not one of those people who is arrogant about not watching the show. On Girls With Goals this week (listen here for quality banter), I chatted with Denise Curtin and Niamh Maher about the reality show that's taking over the world. Well, taking over our world anyway. "People are either very committed to it and watch it religiously, or they literally don't watch it," Niamh said. "I don't think that you can be a some time watcher of the show." That's when I interjected, with a mini rant. "I do think that there are a lot of people who are on their high horse about not watching it, because it dumbs you down!" I said. And in fairness, we all know someone who has a real smugness about the fact that they don't watch Love Island. "That's horse shit to be honest," I added. "I mean, it's a super successful show. You can't claim that it's for morons. Some of the most intelligent people I know watch Love Island." "So yeah I don't have that element of 'I am superior to everyone' for not watching that tripe."
