Add us as a preferred source on Google »In 2024, one thing has become clear: the romcom genre is having a moment.
Between TV series like Emily In Paris, The Summer I Turned Pretty, and Daisy Jones & The Six, in 2023, our thirst for romcoms have been renewed.
This year, Too Much, a series from the mind of Girls star and creator, Lena Dunham, along with the producers of Love Actually, is set to make its way onto Netflix and into our hearts.
Too Much will tell the story of Jessica, a New York workaholic in her mid-thirties, reeling from a broken relationship that she thought would last forever and slowly isolating everyone she knows, according to Netflix's official synopsis.
"When every block in New York tells a story of her own bad behaviour, the only solution is to take a job in London, where she plans to live a life of solitude like a Bronte sister.
"But when she meets Felix – who is less Hugh Grant in Notting Hill and more Hugh Grant's drunken roommate – she finds that their unusual connection is impossible to ignore, even as it creates more problems than it solves.
"Now they have to ask themselves: do Americans and Brits actually speak the same language?"
The romcom series is described as an 'expat rom-com for the disillusioned who wonder if true love is still possible, but sincerely hope that it is'.
Jessica rattled from her twenties and breakup, meets the promiscuous Felix, a man 'running from a trauma he can't name'
“Felix upends all her expectations, but it turns out that trusting someone is scarier than trusting no one," the synopsis continues, adding that the male lead is a 'very different kind of 35 – acting eternally 18, dressed like a punk elf'.
One thing is clear: both are facing somewhat of an identify crisis when their paths collide.
Megan Stalter, comedian, model and actress will play the leading lady, Jessica in the upcoming romcom.
Felix, the male lead, will be played by The White Lotus star, Will Sharpe.
The remainder of the cast is made up of Saltburn star, Richard E. Grant, Passages actress, Adele Exarchopoulos, Top Boy's Adwoa Aboah, The Crown's Prasanna Puwanarajah, Sleepless in Seattle star Rita Wilson.
The Too Much cast also includes Dean-Charles Chapman, Andrew Rannells, Daisy Bevan, Rhea Perlman, Michael Zegen Janicza Bravo, Kaori Momoi, and Leo Reich.
Variety has reported that Emily Ratajkowski will play Polly, Felix's ex-girlfriend, with the model seemingly confirming the news in an Instagram post of the article.
A trailer has yet to be released for the film nor has a release date been confirmed.
However, production is due to start this year.
One thing is for sure, we can't wait!
