Brexit is coming...

It’s not just the Seven Kingdoms that are divided.

Britain’s decision to withdraw from the EU has sparked fears that it would cut off funding for Game of Thrones, the incredibly popular show is filmed in Northern Ireland and throughout Europe, but HBO has stated that they don’t expect production to be affected.

Northern Ireland currently benefits from the European Regional Development Fund, which is part of a European program to encourage film production in Europe.

Brexit has jeopardised this funding however HBO are confident that production will continue.

A statement read.

“We do not anticipate that the result of the EU Referendum will have any material effect on HBO producing Game of Thrones”

While the network hasn’t exactly 100% guaranteed that they’ll continue to film on these shores, Northern Ireland Screen have also echoed this confident outlook.

“This statement is to confirm that Northern Ireland Screen’s production funding comes from the Northern Ireland Executive through Invest NI and does not use monies provided from European funded programmes. We look forward to business as usual”.
