Christian Bale could be set to star as Steve Jobs in an upcoming biopic of Apple founder Steve Jobs.

The American Hustle star has been newly linked to the movie, which is being directed by Danny Boyle and written by Aaron Sorkin.

The film is based on Walter Isaacson’s biography and although Leonardo DiCaprio had previously been in the running for the lead role, Vanity Fair has claimed that Bale is now the most likely actor to take the part.

Ashton Kutcher previously played the technology icon in Jobs, which charted the entrepreneur’s younger years.

However, his performance was panned by Apple co-creator Steve Wozniak, who said that while the That 70s Show star has nailed Jobs’ mannerisms, “he didn’t bring out the thinking that makes us love Steve and the ideas that drove Apple forward”.

“I had such high hopes for this movie and, oh, it was so hard to say that it let me down a bit and it fell a bit flat. I felt bad for many people I know well who were portrayed wrongly in their interactions with Jobs and the company.”
