Rosanna Davison explains why she never goes make-up free after cruel remarks

Kat O'Connor

Rosanna Davison was working on a photo shoot in London when the photographer called her ugly.

Rosanna Davison has opened up about why she doesn’t go make-up-free online and the reason why is actually quite heartbreaking. There is so much pressure placed on women to look ‘perfect’ all the time. We’re expected to be spot-free, the perfect size and to have smooth hair that is always in place. But that isn’t the case all of the time. Some days we throw our hair up in a bun, pop on some moisturiser and that’s enough.

During a recent Q&A session, Rosanna Davison was asked why she always wears make-up when posting online and she explained the heartbreaking reason why.

The mum-of-three shared that is is a way of protecting herself.

“It wasn’t meant in a mean way but yeah, I don’t really tend to go on the internet without make-up. It got me thinking about why that is.”

She explained that shortly after Miss World, she was working on a photoshoot in London. A photographer approached her and said, “Oh, you’re actually really photogenic. You looked quite ugly when you came in without make-up.”

The model was understandably hurt by the cruel remarks and said it completely changed the way she sees herself. Not only did the remarks damage her confidence, but they also pressured her into thinking she had to wear make-up all the time.

“I was young, I was in this whole new world. I definitely had imposter syndrome – I probably still do.

“It’s all a way of protecting yourself, and protecting your emotional well-being, or maybe a form of escapism as well.”

The model says she never shows “my natural self” and feels pressure to be “photo-ready”. She said that became her identity after the incident in London.
