However, they said it has been an incredibly tough time for the family, especially with Derek being in hospital over the holidays.

A source told The Sun that it has been an extremely heartbreaking time for the family.

They told the publication that both Kate and her children have been by Derek's side throughout it all.

They shared: "Derek has fought so many times, and always, against all odds, come out the other side.

"Kate has been utterly incredible — by his side while being an amazing mum to Darcey and Billy," they added.

Kate Garraway has often been praised for speaking so publicly about her husband's health battles.

The public has been sending her loving messages since her husband was hospitalised before Christmas.
