George Clooney has publicly addressed his dispute with the Daily Mail for the first time, telling Variety, “It’s just fun to slap those bad guys every once in a while”.
The actor became embroiled in a dispute with the publication after the newspaper published an article that implied Clooney’s mother-in-law was opposed to his upcoming marriage to lawyer Amal Alamuddin on religious grounds.
The actor refused to accept a written apology from the newspaper, and wrote a counter piece for USA Today, where he slammed the media outlet for ‘incited violence’ and a number of ‘inaccuracies’ cited in the piece.
He later wrote a second article for the publication rejecting the Daily Mail’s counter statement to the piece.
Speaking about the dispute in an interview with Variety, Clooney said:
“It’s just fun to slap those bad guys every once in a while, knock ’em around.
“I would sit with my friends and we’d just go, ‘So they just sat at a computer and just went, ‘OK, this is what I’m gonna say today’.’ I mean, literally, because you just go, ‘There isn’t literally an element of truth in this’.
