The inquest into the death of Peaches Geldof has heard that she was a heroin addict and had been taking the substitute drug methadone for two and a half years before her death, according to Sky News.

The 25-year-old had been having weekly drugs tests which she told her husband, Thomas Cohen, were negative. However he told the hearing that he suspected she had been taking drugs.

In February, when he asked her about drugs, she retrieved heroin from the loft of their Wrotham home and flushed it down the toilet.

Following Ms Geldof’s death, police found 6.9g of heroin along with drugs paraphernalia in the house. There is an ongoing investigation into who supplied the drugs but no arrests have been made as yet.

The coroner, Roger Hatch, also said that the purity of heroin had been a factor and that it was likely her tolerance had declined.

Mr Cohen found his wife, with whom he had two sons, slumped on a bed in their Kent home back in April after she failed to answer the telephone.
