Kate Mara is in talks with Sony to play one of the victims in a biopic film detailing kidnapper Ariel Castro.

The actress, who shot to fame playing Zoe Barnes in Netflix drama House of Cards, is rumoured to play Michelle Knight, who was held prisoner with another two women in Cleveland for over 10 years.

Producers at Sony are believed to want Kate following her run as strong, yet vulnerable Barnes in the hit show. Speaking to new York Daily News, a source said:

“They [Sony] feel that Kate would be able to capture Michelle’s vulnerability and psychological pain – something she excelled at as Zoe Barnes.”

Castro held the women captive until May 6, 2013, when one of the three women escaped alerting the world to their horror situation. Michelle was held hostage alongside Amanda Berry, and Georgina ‘Gina’ DeJesus, after the women were lured inside Castro’s house after they accepted a lift from him.

The lead role is still up for grabs, with The Wire star David Costabile and The Breakfast Club actor Emilio Estevez in the running to play Ariel.

Ariel Castro was arrested the same day the women were freed and later took his own life while serving his jail sentence.
