The documentary comes out next week.

Matt Willis has opened up about his struggles with addiction in a new BBC documentary, hoping to remind viewers that there is a way out.

The Busted singer said the documentary is “hard for me to watch” and wants to remind people that there is no status, wealth or age barriers to addiction.

‘Matt Willis: Fighting Addiction’ airs on BBC One on Wednesday, May 17th and take a look into his life during his “darkest days” as he tries to understand his own addiction to drugs and alcohol with the help of experts and other addicts.

The 40-year-old spoke about how his addiction “pushed him to the edge” and that he constantly fears he could relapse.

Willis told the Radio Times: “I was young, and I was always the one taking it way further than I should have. The number of blackout moments (due to drinking) I had even up to the age of 20 was huge.”

Matt also looks into his relationship with his wife, Emma Willis, and how his addiction has impacted their life together, admitting that she also lives in constant fear of Matt relapsing again.

Willis added: “It was hard for me to see how much that fear was still prevalent for her.”

He also said that the BBC documentary allowed the couple to come to terms and “realise that we still had some talking to do”, revealing that therapy has been huge for them.

He said: “I had such a hateful way with myself, but if you look back and you can say, ‘You poor little bugger, what were you doing?'”
