Barry Keoghan hopes to give back to his family one day
He is quickly on the way to becoming one of the most successful Irish actors of his generation, but Barry Keoghan isn’t forgetting about his roots anytime soon.
The Oscar nominee is in the depths of award season, but he’s always thinking of home, even when he’s thousands of miles away.
During a new interview with GQ, the Saltburn star admitted that being famous can feel incredibly lonely.
He told the publication that red-carpet events and premieres can be very isolating.
He admitted that he often thinks of his late mother when he’s in the spotlight.
“When I’m isolated? Obviously, my mother. My mother, always. She’s many years passed now, but I always think about her anyway. It’s always just in and around achievements that it’s really prominent—’cause you’d like to celebrate that with her.”
Barry said fame is a dangerous thing and it can be harmful if you don’t check in with yourself and keep grounded.
One thing he’s not letting go of is his connection to his family, the actor said.
Keoghan hopes to buy a house for his grandmother and aunt
Barry opened up about the way his loved ones turned his life around after he spent years in and out of different foster homes.
Keoghan eventually moved in with his grandmother and aunt, and he said he hopes to repay them for all they did.
Barry and his brother Eric were in the foster care system for seven years before they moved in with their grandmother and aunt.
They lived in a small flat in Dublin and his cousin Gemma, whom he refers to as his sister, even gave up her bedroom for them.
The Banshees of Inisherin actor said it’s time for him to give back now.
He promised to buy his family a house after his major success in recent years.
“Now she has her bedroom back, finally. Not that I’ve got them their own house yet — but now that’s coming.
He continued, “At some point. Definitely making that happen.”
