This is brilliant.
Plus-size model Ashley Graham is making waves in the modeling world and encourage body positivity among women everywhere.
So it’s no surprise that one of Barbie’s first (long overdue) curvy dolls would be made in Ashley’s honour.
The doll features a curvier figure than the classic barbie and also has luscious long brown hair a glittery bodycon dress and thick thighs just like the real model.
Ashley said that when it came to designing her Barbie, this was the one thing she was adamant on.
“She had to have her thighs touch. No ands, ifs or buts about it. And I asked for cellulite but obviously plastic and cellulite don’t go hand in hand,” She told The Hollywood Reporter.
“It was important that the Barbie resembled me as much as possible. The thighs touching was one way to show young girls that it’s OK for your thighs to touch, despite society saying that a ‘thigh gap’ is more beautiful.”
She added that if there were more dolls that looked like her growing up she may have accepted her body much sooner.
“Would I have looked at my body differently if I were playing with Barbies that looked like me? Would I have accepted my thighs and my round arms and my round stomach a little bit more? Probably,” she said.
“I think it’s absolutely incredible that an iconic image in the fashion world, like Barbie, is keeping up with the times and following along with body diversity in such a big way.” She said.
The doll was unveiled at Glamour’s Women of the Year awards where Ashley was one of the incredible people being honoured. She looked pretty delighted by the doll.

If you’re hoping to get yourself an Ashley doll, you’re out of luck. As of now, Mattel only has two in stock. However, if there is enough demand, then who knows.
