Andrew Scott was nominated for his role in Ripley
Irish star Andrew Scott has been nominated for an Emmy award for his performance in Netflix limited series Ripley.
The Dubliner starred as Tom Ripley in the adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s celebrated novel The Talented Mr. Ripley, which received critical acclaim earlier this year.
The 47-year-old will compete against Matt Bomer (Fellow Travelers), Richard Gadd (Baby Reindeer), Jon Hamm (Fargo), and Tom Hollander (Feud: Capote vs The Swans) in the Best Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or a TV Movie category at this year’s Emmys ceremony.
Andrew Scott nominated for Emmy award for lead role in Ripley
Scott has previously received an Emmy nomination in 2020 for his role in the anthology series Black Mirror.
He originally shot to fame following his performance as James Moriarty in the BBC series Sherlock, for which he won the BAFTA Television Award for Best Supporting Actor.
He went on to capture the hearts of viewers following his role as the hot priest in Fleabag, earning himself a Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
Scott was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for his starring role in the romantic drama film All of Us Strangers alongside fellow Irish star Paul Mescal.
In Ripley, Scott stars alongside Dakota Fanning and Johnny Flynn. The series, filmed in black and white, earned critical praise particularly for the lead actor’s performance as the reptilian social climber Tom Ripley.
Ripley was also nominated for the Limited Series or Anthology Series award alongside Baby Reindeer, Fargo, Lessons in Chemistry, and True Detective: Night Country.
The Primetime Emmy Awards take place in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 15th.
