Is a return for Connell and Marianne on the cards?

Normal People star Daisy Edgar-Jones has said that she is ‘always open’ to returning to the hit show if a new season comes about.

The show based on Sally Rooney’s novel took the world by storm over four years ago and starred Edgar-Jones alongside Paul Mescal.

The complex love story between two Irish teens shot both leads to fame, with Mescal now set to star in the upcoming Gladiator sequel and Edgar-Jones in disaster blockbuster Twisters.

There has been no news of another series so far but the cast hasn’t made a secret of wanting to return at some point.

When asked about a potential new season of Normal People, Edgar-Jones, who plays Marianne, told the BBC: “That’s a question for Sally Rooney, I think. If she is up for writing a new story, who knows.”

She added that she is “always open” to re-visiting the character, “I love those characters. It would be wonderful to explore them again.”

Despite her openness for a return, the 26-year-old isn’t holding out hopes, recently telling Entertainment Tonight that there are no plans for a second season.

Her recent reunion with co-star Paul Mescal sparked rumours, but the actress stressed that there is no plan in place.

She told the publication: “No, there is no season two that I know of. It was really special; I love those characters and that world.

“I would love to revisit where they are ten years later,” she added.

Hope is not lost for Normal People season two, but we may have to wait a few more years by the sounds of things.
