Every week, for our ‘Food High Five’ series, we’re going to talk about food that has great health benefits.
This week, we’re looking at foods that are good to eat after a run.
We were asked by one of our lovely readers (Treasa SÃle Uà Hallmhuráin) to find out which foods are good to eat after a run and we found quite a few.
Oatmeal
It might sound bland but oatmeal contains carbohydrates and protein which will boost your energy and satisfy your appetite. Add some fruit to make it more exciting.
Chicken breast
It’s lean and is full of protein which will help boost your energy levels. If that doesn’t convince you, it’s super easy to cook and goes perfectly with rice and vegetables.
Fruit and Veg
When you are exercising, it’s important to keep your energy levels up and protect your immune system which is where fruit and vegetables come in.
Salmon
Salmon contains omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants which are especially good after exercise. Simply add rice and asparagus.
Hummus
While hummus isn’t a good food to have before a run (it can cause bloating), it is good afterwards because it is high in fibre which keeps you full.
