It was a first real birthday party, twelve years in the making.
Catherine Pearson felt saddened that her severely autistic son Logan has never enjoyed a ‘real’ birthday. Logan, who turns 12 today, is unable to speak and finds it difficult to form new friendships.
As such, his birthday is usually a muted affair. Last month, in advance of Logan’s 12th birthday, Catherine took to Facebook to ask for birthday cards and wishes for her beloved son. Over 3,000 birthday cards arrived from all over the world, but one new friend went above and beyond the call of duty.
Local police office Steven Bikofsky heard about the appeal through his girlfriend, and decided that he and his colleagues could help. Yesterday, officers from ten different stations near Andover, Massachusetts threw the delighted young man a surprise birthday bash complete with presents, cake and a police escort arrival.
