The Shoes You Can’t Afford – Nine Things That Happen On Every Shopping Trip

Shopping is a sport in itself.

Cathy Donohue

Shopping is one of those pastimes that some people LOVE and others completely dread.

At Her.ie, we’re firmly divided on the subject. Half the team would shop every day if we had the choice and others see it as a chore, that they put off until they really really really have to.

Regardless of what camp you’re in, you’re sure to have some of these thoughts when shopping.

Planning the event

Much like planning a night out, we get very excited when it comes to a shopping trip. What to buy, where to go, who to bring? From outlets offering discounts to shopping centres full of offers, there are SO many options.

Shopping IS a sport

Visit a shopping street during rush hour and you’re walking fast to beat the crowd, this means you have a workout over before you even realise.

By the time you’ve carried those heavy bags from shop to shop, it’s as good as a weights session at the gym.

Spotting a dream item

You’ll nearly always come across something you absolutely need when you’re stone broke and pay day is a week away. If you don’t buy it at the time, chances are you’ll still be thinking about it days later.

We’re channeling Cinderella here in the hope that if we believe, the Manolo dream will come true. Eventually.

Break time

As much as we love shopping, there has to be breaks. Whether you stop for lunch with the girls or have a leisurely coffee on your own, this part is almost as good as the actual retail therapy. It almost makes us emotional.

Nothing goes with anything

This is definitely one of the biggest problems we have when shopping. It’s easy to fall in love with one item but it’s a little bit harder to make sure it will fit in with the rest of your wardrobe.

We’re still standing in front of our wardrobes saying we’ve nothing to wear.

“But I really need it”

You’re just kicking back and relaxing when suddenly the item you spotted earlier makes its way back into your head…again.

Here starts the inner struggle of “I can’t afford it”, “I really need it”, “I’ll get so much wear from it” and the list goes on.

Admitting defeat

You told yourself you didn’t need it and you did your very best to resist temptation. That’s all that matters…right?! This makes it completely okay to go back and buy the item in question without any guilt. Or so we tell ourselves anyway.

This often happens with shoes because the most expensive ones are all kinds of A-MAZ-ING.

Treat yourself

We all deserve a little treat now and again and while we’re not saying spend your entire life savings on one designer piece.

It’s perfectly acceptable to treat yourself. That’s our line and we’re sticking to it.

Celebration dance

You might not actually do a celebration dance in the company of others ( although we have – hello DKNY bag slashed to half the original price), but chances are you’re doing one in your head. Dream buys deserve special treatment.
