The mother of Mikaeel Kular has been sentenced to 11 years in jail at the High Court in Edinburgh today.

Rosdeep Adekoya, 34, was originally charged with murder but last month pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of culpable homicide, and to a second charge of attempting to defeat the ends of justice by pretending her son had gone missing.

Adekoya killed three-year-old Mikaeel in January and hid his body in a suitcase which she later disposed of in woodlands 20 miles from the family home.

She reported her son missing at the time, telling police that he disappeared from the family’s Edinburgh home in the middle of the night. Adekoya admitted the truth after two days of a huge missing person operation involving hundreds of volunteers.

Her internet history showed searches including “I love all of my children except one”, “Why am I so aggressive with my son” and “Get rid of bruises”.

Reports yesterday suggested that the woman, who has four other children, had been threatened by other inmates and was moved to a special unit at Cornton Vale jail in Stirling for her own safety.
