The small town of Talkeetna in Alaska has an interesting mayor. Let's just say he's purrrrrfect...

It’s a hard life being a cat – not only do you have to spend hours lazing around in the sun and purring for people, you also have to worry about things like taxes and representing your town…well…if you’re this cat anyway…

Emirates247 reports that a half-Manx cat has been putting his paws on the political ladder for years after he was elected as town mayor 15 years ago. Yep, you read that right.

Stubbs, or ‘Mayor Stubbs’ as he is known, was voted into office in the small town of Talkeetna in Alaska after a write-in campaign shortly after he was born.

According to reports, the residents of Talkeetna weren’t impressed with any of the (human) mayoral candidates who stepped forward years ago, so they decided that they’d rather have a cat running the place instead. Stubbs was promptly elected and over the past 15 years, he has become a popular member of the 900-people-strong community.

While Stubbs’ position is technically honorary, the residents still adore him and his election has pretty much made the small town a popular tourist destination.

Residents of Talkeetna say that they’re completely satisfied with how Mayor Stubbs is running things and that they’re overjoyed at his promotion of tourism. In fact, the general store where Stubbs hangs out says that it gets dozens of tourists visiting every single day asking for the feline Mayor.

So we’re sort of considering writing in a dog or a sheep when the next election rolls around…
