Katie Piper’s acid attacker will soon be released from prison, a parole board has confirmed.
The model and TV personality had sulphuric acid thrown over her face and upper body when she was 24-years-old.
The attack, carried out by Stefan Sylvestre, was organised by Piper’s ex-boyfriend, Daniel Lynch. Piper suffered permanent scarring and was left partially blind as a result of the assault.
The parole board confirmed today that Sylvestre would be released from prison after nine years.
In a statement, they said that he no longer posed a “significant risk to the public.”
“The panel will have carefully looked at a whole range of evidence, including details of the original evidence and any evidence of behaviour change.
“We do that with great care and public safety is our number one priority.”

The parole panel said that there were “… a number of things that reduced Mr Sylvestre’s risk of causing serious harm in the future.”
These included his age at the time of the attack, his “criminal lifestyle” he had been “drawn into” at the time of the attack, and the fact that he had avoided violence during his time in prison.
“He has repaired his relationship with his family, has gained employment-related skills and improved his education.
“He has not been involved in drugs in prison and has completed relevant offence-focused work to challenge and change his attitude and thinking.”

The panel also said that Sylvestre had show remorse for his actions.
Piper has since released a statement saying that this is “a difficult time” for her and that she was still trying to “come to terms” with the parole board’s decision.
She said that starting training with Strictly Come Dancing over the past few weeks had distracted her from the news.
