The investigation commenced this weekend after a woman was allegedly assaulted near a beach in Allihies, Co. Cork.
RTÉ News reports that the alleged incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Gardaí have appealed for anyone who was in the area on Friday night or Saturday morning to come forward and contact Bantry Garda station.
