Twitter is a trolls paradise. In fact, it’s highly unlikely that you can spend any time there without some smartarse offering their opinion where it’s not wanted.
Slightly beneath trolling on the list of ‘annoying behaviours the world has adopted’ is mansplaining.
So when a female astronaut tweeted an interesting fact about water in space and it was met with some serious mansplaining, things obviously got a little bit tetchy.
My first venture >63,000′, the space equivalent zone, where water spontaneously boils! Luckily I’m suited! pic.twitter.com/0zB5Ku5Tdy

Scientist Jessica Meir received the following reply from some random guy who listed @SpaceCampUSA alum in his bio.

What ensued was a lot of sarcasm.
@Astro_Jessica thank goodness @CaseyOQuin is here to explain how science works, or we wouldn’t know what to do with ourselves

@OhNoSheTwitnt @CaseyOQuin @Astro_Jessica I’m sure his space camp trumps her degree in comparative physiology and NASA training.

@CaseyOQuin @Astro_Jessica This lesson went well I think. But you should have told her to smile more. Women love that

@CaseyOQuin @Astro_Jessica like… You know astronauts have to know science-y things right? You know they have to go to special astro school
— Samantha Holz (@she_assassin) September 9, 2016
@CaseyOQuin @Astro_Jessica Oh, of course! She’s obviously never heard of thermogoddammics, only being an astronaut. Dickface.

@NiklasAndrae @Astro_Jessica but @CaseyOQuin went to SPACECAMP y’all. So he’s total qualified to mansplain an astronaut

@CaseyOQuin @Astro_Jessica ?????? mansplainer alert ????????
She’s an actual astronaut……!— SP (@gifofred) September 9, 2016
@CaseyOQuin hey maybe you can tell me more about my job considering you do it for others without prompting.
Ps @Astro_Jessica you rock xx— Marie Kelly (@mk_writes) September 9, 2016
@CaseyOQuin @Astro_Jessica I’m pretty sure she knows that. Considering she’s an astronaut. Were you not aware? #mansplaining

@maco415 @CaseyOQuin @Astro_Jessica You are looking at your shoes. They spontaneously boil. A man says ‘Just Simple Thermo babe.’
— Tom O’Neill (@t0m0neill) September 9, 2016
@CaseyOQuin Please continue mansplaining space to an astronaut. It’s fantastically entertaining. @Astro_Jessica
— Sonia Murphy (@Sonia_Murphy) September 9, 2016
@CaseyOQuin @Astro_Jessica sorry, I didn’t understand any of that. All I heard was blah blah kittens.
