It was revealed earlier today that Wexford couple John Murphy and Sarah McGuire are opting out of their traditional gift exchange this Christmas.
Having been together for six years, they decided their money would be better spent saving for a nice holiday or a weekend break at some stage, a source close to the pair revealed.
“I’ve known John and Sarah for years, so it didn’t come as a huge surprise to me. They’re always doing things like this. Last Christmas, John got Sarah a toasted sandwich maker and I think she was a bit disappointed. She was telling the girls that maybe this will be the year that he makes an honest woman of her, but unfortunately it was just an appliance.
Apparently they’re saving for a holiday but I think we all know what’s happening. They’re either going to break up or get engaged. It’s so exciting, I almost forgot to take my vitamin C tablet this morning.
To be honest, I’ve a feeling the pair of them will end up getting each other something small even though they said they wouldn’t. They’re divils, never stick to their word. One year, they got each other the exact same present. It was sick to hear about, to be honest. Not into all that shite myself.”
We reached out to both John and Sarah for a comment but neither were available. It’s believed that they reached the decision after much deliberation, combined with the disappointment of last year’s gifts.
