The pending Referendum on Marriage Equality has arguably been the most discussed referendum this country has ever anticipated. Everyone from Sir Ian McKellen to Jason Manford has weighed in with an opinion.
And while it has been awe-inspiring to see a passionate fight for equality, it has also been disheartening to watch the polarisation of the LGBT community. Strong assumptions have been made about relationships, lifestyles and families.
This video, made by a team of volunteers in Dublin, highlights the ambiguity of sexuality and love. It calls for people to share their first date stories in a gender-neutral way, showing ultimately that love does not discriminate.
Producer Catriona McCarthy says: “We want to see a society void of labels and boxes. We want to live in a world that encourages people to fall in love with kindness and laughter and to not consider sexuality so rigidly.
“Ultimately love is mind-boggling enough, without trying to define parameters for it”.
