This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things… Abrakebabra Publicly Slammed for ‘We’ll Pay Your Tax’ Promotion

Would you like a side order of property tax with that?

Bet they’re wishing they never bothered….

Irish fast food chain Abrakebabra probably weren’t expecting this reaction when they decided to reward loyal customers with some valuable prizes, as part of their new ‘Happy Days’ campaign.

The promotion offers prizes such as free food, holidays and digital TV packages. So far, so good. A recent post offered a pair of tickets to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis at the O2, for example, attracted over one thousand entries.

The more unusual prizes however, seem to be causing some concern. Abrakebabra have also offered to pay college registration fees and property taxes for a year for some winners, and the latter has caused outrage amongst some of the brand’s fans on Facebook.

The controversial tax has been protested by many since its introduction, so when Abrakebabra took to Facebook to offer to pay the fee for one customer for a year, the feedback was somewhat less than positive…

Some of the angry comments left on the Abrakebabra Facebook page

Abrakebabra have yet to respond to negative comments, a selection of which have been posted on the page since Monday night.

UPDATE: Abrakebabra have responded to the controversy by posting this message on their Facebook page this afternoon.
