The Best Way to Organise Your Wardrobe For The Summer Season Ahead

Clear out the clutter with these simple steps!

Her

Coming out of our winter hibernation, there’s never a better time to organise your wardrobe than the first days of summer. From recycling old styles, to matching up the missing socks, we’ve got the top tips you’ll need to make your life a little easier.

Time to weed out the unwanted wears

It can be hard to be brutal when it comes to recycling the clothes you never wear. In the back of your head you’re debating whether the dress will make another appearance but you know realistically it’ll end up back on the hanger within 10minutes of throwing it on.

Take action: Hang everything in with the hanger facing outwards. Once you’ve worn the item, replace the hanger the right way around. Any hanger facing the wrong way after six months represents an item you need to donate!

Divide and conquer the underwear drawer

You’re looking for a bra, and keep pulling out pairs of tights. There’s also a string of thongs but you’re looking for a pair of spanx to slip into a bodycon dress. There’s no denying you’d save a good fifteen minutes of your day if you didn’t have to root for your underwear of choice every morning.

Take action: Spend time separating your bras, knickers and socks into their own piles. Taking three seperate bags, pair off each group and store these in your underwear drawer. Next time you need a white bra, or black socks, you’ll know exactly what bag to search and where to find the hidden treasure.

Suitcase storage

The changing seasons mean new wardrobe essentials, pulling out the lighter bed linen and packing up the woolly sweaters until next year looms again. It also means stripping back your wardrobe so that the vital, easy to reach space isn’t cluttered with your duffel coat or fleecy bed-throw.

Take action: Put those empty suitcases to use and pack them up with your winter woollies, bed linens and winter coats for tidy storage under your bed. Not only does it save you space (what girl couldn’t do with some extra room in the closet?), but you can justify buying some some new luggage (it’s an investment really).

Say goodbye to lonesome socks!

One of our biggest pet hates is the division of the socks. You could’ve sworn they both went into the wash together, and now there’s one on the washing line and another M.I.A. We’re convinced there’s a sock graveyard, where uneven pairs go to die.

Take action: Keep a little dish of safety pins beside the washing machine and pins socks together before washing. Hey presto, no more lonely socks!

Colour code your outfits

You know you want to wear the red shirt with the blue jeans. But you happen to be looking at a bomb site of colours and there’s no way you’re tracking down either item without a serious rummage of hangers.

Take action: Colour code your wardrobe so that it’s simply a case of pulling from the colour section you plan to wear. It sounds nerdy now, but you’ll be grateful when you’re running twenty minutes late and you can pull the dress straight from the hanger.

Shine a light on the chaos

A packed wardrobe can be like rummaging in a cave for hidden gems. There’s too many dark corners with no sign of the elusive item.

Take action: Fit some lights into the ceiling and side walls of your wardrobe to make picking through the clothes that little bit easier. It will shine a light on the chaos, and help you pick out the right tights for the dress. Never the navy with black… never.

Make your props practical

We’ve all taken the hobby that meant you needed a prop, or bought a piece of equipment. Yoga mat – Check. Tennis racket – Check. Hockey Stick – Check. Now we just need to store them all…

Take action: Pick up an umbrella stand to prop your sports equipment. They’ll keep the random sticks, mats or dumbbells out of harms way and tidily in one place!

Now you’ve cleaned out the wardrobe, feel free to go out and grab a new dress. You’ve certainly made the room for it!
