Sharing status updates about your partner could say more about you than you think

We all know the couple who overshare on social media.

Be it a soppy post about their other half, some photos of them or updates about their various holidays or outings. Don’t get me wrong we’re all partial to updating our social media profiles and tagging significant others but when it’s a daily occurrence it gets a bit much.

But apparently, there could be a scientific reason as to why people do over share.

The folks over at Science of Us say it’s called relationship-contingent self-esteem (RCSE), a type of self-esteem that comes from romantic relationships. They say that people with RCSE use social media to show the world how amazing their relationships are. It’s also common among introverts who would be less likely to share these updates with friends offline.

But while this could be perceived as a negative trait, they say that it doesn’t mean that couples are trying to over compensate and rather just love showing off happy they are together.
