Not Such A Hallmark Moment – Card Company Forced to Apologise for Offensive Birthday Card for Teens

It's hard to belive anyone could ever have considered this caption a good idea...

You’ll get a boyfriend when you get bigger boobs.

That’s the extremely offensive message that card company Hallmark was forced to apologise for over the weekend.

Bad enough to see it in writing under any circumstances, but worse again when you learn that the card was made for thirteen-year-old girls.

American author Maureen Johnson was in an unnamed shop in the UK on Friday last, December 7th, when she spotted the offensive card, snapped a picture and Tweeted it to Hallmark PR saying “Dear @HallmarkPR, SERIOUSLY????” along with the hashtag #letsmessgirlsupearlywithcards.

The card shows a picture of a girl looking excitedly at a diamond ring, and the script on the front reads:

“You’re 13 Today!

If you had a rich boyfriend he’d give you diamonds and rubies. Well, maybe next year you will – when you’ve bigger boobies!”

Happy Birthday: The least appropriate card for a thirteen-year-old we’ve ever seen…

Hallmark issued an apology after over 1,000 people retweeted Johnson’s original tweet – issuing a statement on their site to say that the card was indeed inappropriate and claiming that it had not actually been published for 15 years.

Apology issued on the Hallmark website after multiple complaints

The company claim they are now doing everything in their power to track own any remaining copies.
