Ah, bless.
Laura Mesi is a personal trainer from Italy.
She’s also a woman who decided that she didn’t need a partner to be happy so she went and got married to herself.
“I firmly believe that each of us must first of all love ourselves,” she said. “You can have a fairytale even without the prince.”
Laura married herself in a full-blown ceremony with bridesmaids, a wedding dress, 70 guests, and a three-tiered cake for everyone to tuck into.
She definitely did not scrimp.
Laura’s marriage to herself is part of the latest wedding trend called ‘sologamy’ – like polygamy, but with ‘solo’ instead of ‘poly’… get it?
Evening though the ceremony itself is not legally binding, it promotes self-love and attempts to normalise being single in your later years.
For 40-year-old Laura, marrying herself was all about being happy – and proving to herself that she could be that without being in a relationship.
She told Italian newspaper La Repubblica that the idea came to her over a decade ago.
“I told friends and family that if I had not found my soul-mate by my 40th birthday I would marry myself.
If one day I find a man with whom I can plan a future I’ll be happy, but my happiness does not depend on him.”
You’re right Laura, it doesn’t, because you seem to be having a ball all on your own there.
Fair play, gal.
