It’s set to be the Ice-Bucket challenge of 2015, as a new craze has taken Facebook by storm this week and has rapidly caught on in Ireland.

The latest charity campaign sees people post their first ever Facebook profile picture to their timeline before tagging their friends to do the same.

With each post, €4 is being donated to Mental Health Ireland who revealed that they have seen a significant rise in donations in the last few days.

Mental Health Ireland promotes positive health and wellbeing to all individuals and communities and support people who experience difficulties on their journey of recovery.

“We also provide training and education about positive mental health awareness to community groups and work places nationwide,” explained Head of Communications, Jill O’Herlihy.

“The money raised from the Facebook Post Campaign will go directly to provide Training Bursaries for people undertaking training in mental health awareness,” she continued before adding that they were extremely grateful to whoever started the trend to raise money for the organization.

“A huge thank you to all who have donated already and tagged their friends to donate. If anyone knows the person who started the donations can you please get in touch with us on our Facebook page!” she added.

If you want to get involved for this great cause simply repost your first ever Facebook profile picture and then text MHI to 50300 to donate €4.
