“Great Drying In The Weather” Twelve Things We Have Learned From Republic Of Telly

We have learned so much from them...

Sue Murphy

It has been on our screens since 2010 and has basically now become a part of our weekly schedule; Republic of Telly is arguably one of the best and funniest programmes to grace our Irish screens. Here are twelve lessons we have learned from the show.

1. We love talking about being Irish.

If there’s one thing we love to do as Irish people, it’s talk about being Irish. We could talk about being Irish all the live long day and just how great it is.

2. It’s fine to mock the Irish department in RTE.

Finally, it’s ok to have a joke about the Irish language. We love it, but honestly, let’s just have a laugh with it.

3. Job Bridge is literally hell.

Literally, work hell. WORK HELL.

4. Irish Weddings are very different from other weddings abroad.

Very different.

5. We’re a very… unique nation.

There is none other quite like us.

6. Musicals make everything better.

Even Ireland. Just everything.

7. There are times when you shouldn’t laugh, but you still do.

It’s a kid’s programme. We shouldn’t laugh… but…

8. Christmas in Ireland is also very different from being abroad.

Why can’t we be like everyone else and NOT try to kill ourselves off on Christmas Day?

9. There are rules to pub drinking.

Very important rules and regulations… that only exist in Ireland.

10. Funerals are far more fun than they should be.

They really shouldn’t be this much fun, but somehow, they always are.

11. You can never be too prepared for “The Visitors”.

Oh GOD, the VISITORS! GET THE BISCUITS!

12. The Bosco film should be an actual thing!

Please, please somebody make this film.
