Every week, for our ‘Food High Five’ series, we’re going to talk about food that has great health benefits.

This week, we’re looking at the orange.

This fruit is probably already in your kitchen, in some shape or form, but chances are you don’t know all the good things it can do for your body.

Oranges Funnily enough, oranges ranks highest among fruits on a list of 38 filling foods put together by Australian researchers. Feeling full can help you eat less throughout the day.

1. Good for your skin and hair

Oranges are packed with antioxidants and vitamin C which helps keep skin and hair feeling great and looking young.

2. Boosts immunity

Again, because of the vitamin C an orange contains, they are great for improving your immunity keeping you free from colds and other infections.

3. Prevents cancer and heart disease

As well as preventing your arteries from getting blocked and reducing your cholesterol, oranges contain Liminoid which helps prevent certain forms of cancer.

4. Relieves constipation

Oranges are a good source of fibre which keeps the digestive system moving including your stomach and intestines.

5. Can help weight loss

Due to the amount of fibre this fruit contains, the fact that they are fat-free and contain very few calories, oranges are an ideal addition to a healthy diet.
