Online dating is a weird and wonderful world
For some people it’s about having fun, meeting new people or getting back out there into the scene but for others it can mean finding the love of your life.
Wherever you fall in these non-distinct categories, it doesn’t really matter, the important part is that you stay safe.
So, what should you look out for when trying to find your next date on your chosen app?
A barely filled-out profile
How are you meant to decide if you want to date the person if they’re given no details about their interests and hobbies?
While looks aren’t everything, physical attraction is part of most relationships too so avoid profiles that don’t have a clear image of the person you want to chat to.
Overly sexual remarks
Though some sweet talk can be nice, there should be a foundation of respect and understanding in any potential relationship.
So if the person behind the profile seems to be laying it on too thick and not trying to get to know you as a person, maybe you should reconsider.
Pushing your boundaries
If you have set out exactly what you’re comfortable with and your potential date seems to be ignoring them or trying to change your mind, it could be time to pause.
One common example is if someone insists on meeting at a private location despite you voicing a preference to meet in a safe, public place.
Love bombing
If your online connection is already dropping that l word before you guys have met in person this could be a red flag.
They may be demanding constant communication like phone calls or knowing where you are at a given moment and then backtracking, apologising or sending you gifts.
This potentially could develop into a manipulative relationship so you might want to cut them off.
Refusing face-to-face communication
This doesn’t have to mean refusing to meet for an in-person date, it could just be a video chat.
If your match tells you they can’t Facetime over and over again, it might indicate that they aren’t who they say they are.
