According to research completed by thortful, 26% of men are reportedly more empathetic, understanding and patient after having children.
The study found that in the UK, over 40% of dads feel like they "need to be more involved in raising their children compared to previous generations."
Researchers investigated the reasons why men become fathers in the first place, and the impact it has on their lives. The answers the men gave are definitely interesting.
Almost 50% of men say they feel fulfilled after having children, and 12% even say they feel healthier.
However, although parenthood and fatherhood have increased the quality of life for the majority of men, some have not adapted as well.
Almost 10% claim to have lost their social life, while 7% say their lives are more chaotic, and this has caused a decline in their mental health
Speaking on the results of the study, a representative from the organisation said: "Whilst many fathers describe parenthood as one of the most fulfilling experiences of their lives, it’s important to acknowledge that not everyone finds it easy all of the time."
The spokesperson added that talking openly with family, friends or a partner "can make a significant difference."
More than one in five men have wanted to become a father since they were young, with over 50% have always "wanted to create a family and legacy."
For others, 30% admitted it was just the next step for their relationship, with 17% wanting to give their partner what they wanted.
A shocking 7% of men said they became fathers because of social pressures to have children.
On a personal level, 16% thought that having children would make them mature emotionally, and 14% wanted a change to "calm their lifestyle."
The study also found that generational differences have factored into the behaviour of new dads.
19% of the men interviewed claimed they wanted to "build the father-child relationship they never had", and want to be more emotionally involved than their fathers were with them.
