An Irish pub has a very special message for Italy ahead of today’s game

Cassie Delaney

So the Euro’s are on, and the whole country has been immersed in a new wave of patriotism.

We love our boys in green, we love our fans and we think together they’re capable of everything – even beating the Italians.

Now for the record, it’s not the most impossible feat in the world. In fact, fadó fadó, in 1994 Ireland took on Italy during the world cup in The States.

Jackie’s army beat the heavyweights 1 – nil when Ray Houghton scored a goal in the first half. For 79 nail-biting minutes, our boys fought off Roberto Baggio, Roberto Donadoni, Giuseppe Signori, Paolo Maldini and Franco Baresi at bay.

So look, it’s achievable.

But while I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer, the chances are somewhat slim.

Still, loyal to the day we die, every Irish fecker is rooting for the lads. We are, after all, the best fans in the world.

One pub in Mullingar has shown a remarkable, eh, sign of support with this encouraging and slightly threatening message.

John Daly’s pub describes itself as a very laid back bar with fun and friendly staff. It seems they have been having a lot of fun with their outdoor chalkboard and just straight up told Italy how it is.

The pub uploaded a photo yesterday evening of the sign which plays homage existing international relations between our two nations.

It reads:

Dear (Good Friend) Italy,

You know the way we think you’re sound and we love your win, restaurants, chippers and women…

We will Boycott all of these things if you don’t let us win on Wednesday.

Lots of love,

Everyone in Ireland.

Ps. Belguim, we love your beer and chocolate – Please beat Sweden.
