The HSE has warned gay men of an outbreak of a rare type of chlamydia in Ireland.
The outbreak of Lymphogranuloma Venereum (LGV), which is associated with the Chlamydia bacteria, is currently being investigated in the HSE East region by the health authority.
According to the Sunday Times, over 35 cases of the sexually transmitted infection (STI) were reported since May last year, with most cases affecting those who are also HIV positive.
The infection is easy to treat and doctors are urging anyone who may be concerned to get tested as soon as possible.
