Netflix Helps Parents Trick Kids Into Falling for an Early New Year’s Countdown

Mean trick or genius move? You decide!

2015 may arrive a little earlier for some Irish families this year, thanks to a nifty little move from Netflix.

The streaming service has announced that it will be on hand to help parents who want to celebrate early and get their little revellers off to bed, via a King Julien countdown special that can be used at whatever time a parent is ready.

The initiative comes after research suggested more than a third of parents (34 per cent) admitted to starting the party early to fool their kids into thinking it’s midnight, citing their kid’s or their own bedtime as the reason.

Dreamwork’s party animal King Julien, who first came to prominence in Madagascar, came to the rescue when 36 per cent of parents said they would search for a countdown in a different time zone in order to celebrate earlier and 22 per cent would go as far as to stage a countdown of their own.

This year, King Julien will host his very own kid-sized countdown special on Netflix that families can use to ring in 2015 whenever they choose to celebrate with three minutes of high-energy, music-filled fun.

The countdown will be available in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, UK, Ireland, the Nordics, the Netherlands and France.
