One Tree Hill is returning to the small screen

Netflix is officially working on a sequel to One Tree Hill.

Thankfully, the popular teen-drama series isn’t getting a reboot, but a sequel instead.

According to reports, original stars Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton will be returning for the sequel.

The actresses will return as Brooke and Peyton, who are now parents to teenagers.

Netflix revealed the series will be set 20 years after the final season took place.

The show ran for nine seasons and sadly came to an end in 2012, but is making it’s long-awaited return on Netflix.

According to Deadline, the sequel will follow Payton and Brooke as they adapt to life as parents. It will see them “facing challenges not unfamiliar to what they tackled in the original series like love, insecurities, and grief.”

Who will star in the Netflix sequel?

Hilarie Burton, who left the show in season six, spoke out about the new project on Instagram.

She wrote: “What if you really can go back home? If there’s an opportunity to team with brilliant creatives and build a space where all our friends can show off their talents? Own our history? Reclaim our turf? Honor our fans? Sign us up.

“There’s only one Tree Hill, after all. And you — the OTH Fam— have shown us that it’s not just an idea. It really is the place where “everything’s better and everything’s safe.”

Chad Michael Murray has “no plans to return” to the series which has left fans wondering how that will impact Peyton’s storyline.

When One Tree Hill ended, Lucas and Peyton had a daughter together, but fans are now wondering if they’ll recast Chad Michael Murray’s role.

No other cast members have been confirmed to return as of yet, but we’re crossing our fingers that James Lafferty will return as Nathan Scott.
