The member of the globally famous band revealed the news to his fans in a video he posted to his website talking about his week.
The 77-year-old called the trip to hospital a "little health hiccup" as he was rushed to hospital in an ambulance, but much to everyone's relief explained that "the good news is I can play guitar."
The guitarist said: “They called it a minor stroke, and all of a sudden out of the blue, I didn’t have any control of this arm,” he said, moving his left arm and flexing his fingers to show the movement had returned.
“It was a little scary, I have to say. I had the most fantastic care and attention from the hospital where I went, blue lights flashing, the lot, it was very exciting. I might post a video if you like.”
He added: “I didn’t want to say anything at the time because I didn’t want anything surrounding it, I really don’t want sympathy. Please don’t do that, because it’ll clutter up my inbox, and I hate that. The good news is I’m OK.”
May explained that he is now homebound for the time being, not being able to do anything that could raise his heartrate such as driving or taking a flight.
The guitarist has experienced his fair share of health scares, suffering a heart attack in 2020 as a result of an arterial disease.
He explained to fans that he was "very near death" being taken to hospital where doctors found that three of his arteries were blocked.
May told the The Times: “I’ve had complications due to the drugs I’m on, one of which was a stomach explosion that nearly killed me.”
After the hearth attack doctor's recommended heart surgery, however, the musician opted for three heart stents.
