Despite perfecting the part of the cash-strapped heiress Rose DeWitt Bukater, it seems Winslet only secured the part after it was originally turned down by Gwyneth Paltrow.
After Paltrow walked away from the project, Cameron had both Winslet and Claire Danes audition for the part, with the relatively unknown Winslet winning the role last minute.

The film scooped eleven of its award categories including Best Picture and Best Director.
