Paul Mescal has praised the Irish actress

Irish actor Paul Mescal says Saoirse Ronan was “spot on” when she spoke out about violence against women on The Graham Norton Show.

During his appearance on this week’s Late Late Show, Mescal praised his friend and Foe co-star.

Mescal said he wasn’t surprised by the response to the now-viral moment.

“I’m not surprised that the message received as much attention that it got… She’s more often than not the most intelligent person in the room,” he told Patrick Kielty.

He continued, “She was spot on, hit the nail on the head, and its also good that messages like that are kind of gaining traction. That’s a conversation that we should absolutely be having on a daily basis.”

During their appearance on Norton’s chat show, Paul Mescal and Eddie Redmayne were laughing about using a phone for self-defense.

The actors found the suggestion funny, but Ronan responded in the most brilliant way, reminding the actors of how dangerous the world can be for women.

Mescal quipped: “Who is actually going to think about that? If someone actually attacked me, I’m not going to go ‘phone.’”

Ronan swiftly responded saying, “That’s what girls have to think about all the time.”

Ronan has since defended both actors and stressed that neither of them meant any harm during the interview.

Speaking to Ryan Tubridy on Virgin Radio UK: “He completely gets that and completely understands that but I think the fact that there was a moment like that that happened on a show like Graham Norton, which is something that the entire nation channels and to watch and even overseas, it’s something that people tune into.”
