Eoghan McDermott and his girlfriend are expecting their first child together

Eoghan McDermott is set to become a dad

The dad-to-be announced the news in an emotional post on his Instagram page.

He shared a video montage of Alessandra Heredia's pregnancy so far. He captioned the video, "The next chapter."

His followers and friends shared well wishes with the singer including Irish TV presenter Laura Whitmore.

She simply posted a heart emoji under the announcement,

Michele McGrath also wrote, "The best news!!! Huge congratulations to you both."

"Congrats pal. Enjoy fatherhood mate! It’s the best experience life can give," another wrote.

One added, "Congratulations, so exciting for you both- sending lots of love. Sleep now!"

"So delighted for you both. You are going to make a great Dad," another wrote.

This is the first time Eoghan has spoken out about his new relationship.

It is not known how long the couple have been together.

The former RTÉ star was involved with Aoife Melia before they ended their relationship in 2022.

McDermott quit his job at RTÉ with no explanation in 2021 but explained why a year later.

He told his followers that 'false allegations' were made against him which have since been retracted.

The presenter issued a public apology to Aoife following the allegations.

He wrote on Instagram, "The last 18 months have been devastating and life-altering in ways that I haven’t fully processed yet. I met Aoife 15 years ago and think she has been and will remain the most wonderful person I’ve ever known.

"I’m sorry we didn’t get to see our story have a happy ending and so sorry for the turmoil that upended her life, through no fault of her own."
