Helen George is set to hang up her nurse’s uniform for a more sparkly number, as the actress has been confirmed as the 13th contestant for the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing.
Best known for her role as Nurse Beatrix ‘Trixie’ Franklin in the 50s period drama Call the Midwife, George will now be taking to the dancefloor on September 5th.
This won’t be the first time the 31-year old will perform on stage – having previously performed as a back-up singer for Sir Elton John and starred in a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and David Zippel called The Woman in White.
George, who is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, shared her excitement at the news earlier today, saying:
“I know it’s going to be a challenge and if I’m honest I’m slightly terrified.
“I can’t wait to get my tan and sequins on.”
Helen joins former Watchdog presenter Anita Rani, Jay McGuiness from The Wanted, as well as Jeremy Vine, Ainsley Harriott, Kellie Bright, Georgia May Foote, Katie Derham, Carol Kirkwood, Peter Andre, Daniel O’Donnell and Anthony Ogogo in the battle for the Strictly crown.
The show returns to BBC on September 5th with Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman at the helm.
