Wedding co-ordinator shocked by ‘awkward’ song choice for mother-son dance

This wedding co-ordinator felt pretty uncomfortable

Mother-son dances at weddings are slowly becoming more and more popular. Like the traditional father-daughter dance, the mother-son dance gives them a chance to mark the wedding day together.

However, one mum and her son caused controversy after choosing a pretty odd song for their dance.

The choice was so awkward that a wedding coordinator took to Reddit about it.

They said: “Someone else’s post about a weird mother-son dance reminded me of this. I was working a wedding, setting up the plating station in one room while the reception was starting outside.”

The coordinator heard Perfect by Ed Sheeran starting to play and assumed it was time for the first dance.

However, they were pretty surprised to see the mother and son take to the dancefloor as the song played.

The Ed Sheeran hit has become one of the most popular first dance songs in recent years so choosing it for a mother-son dance was a pretty odd choice.

The poster continued: “I could hear Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” playing and was thinking ‘Oh must be the first dance.’

“The song ended and my coordinator came in and said, “Well that was the most awkward mother-son dance I’ve ever witnessed.”

Fellow Reddit users agreed that it was a poor song choice and agreed that there are far better song choices out there.

One user said: “Like an uncle and niece doing karaoke together to Afternoon Delight.”

“My Father/Daughter dance was to Rod Stewart’s ‘Forever Young’. I know it’s usually interpreted as a parent singing to their son, but I still thought it was okay,” another shared.

“The whole concept of the dances with either parent is so painful to watch. I didn’t even think of doing this,” one admitted.
